This year I thought I’d take on the NaNoWriMo challenge. That’s 50,000 words in 30 days, if you haven’t heard. So, this November, I’m taking time off from doing any work on The Last Doomling series to write a new standalone. I’m hoping that by the end of this month, I’ll have at least a solid beginning of a new novel, which I intend to put up for sale once it’s finished.
I’m doing fairly well, keeping up with my word count so far. It didn't count my first day as having written though, because I entered in my word count for that day a few minutes after midnight, but at least I can say I had beat the daily goal by a few hundred words. One thing’s for sure, I really need to get my hours straight, I’m all over the place at the moment because of being up during my sleep hours. Don’t know why, but pregnancy always gives me insomnia. Then again, I might just try moving my waking hours back to daytime for this month if that will work better.
For those interested, here’s the concept of the story I’m working on for NaNoWriMo:
A prince, tired of waiting to be rescued by a noble princess, escapes from his unicorn guarded tower to search for a princess on his own. A cut-throat bandit's daughter leaves the band to chase after her dream of becoming a knight of the realm. A dragon attacks a Wizard's herd of horses and is spelled into believing he is a horse. When the three collide, fun ensues.
I’m a little worried that the whole story won’t take up 50,000 words, but I always worry about that when first starting a new project. Kind of silly, when my first novel is well over 100,000 words. Anyways, this has been fun so far. I’ve been working on the revision of my first novel so much that I’ve almost forgotten what it’s like to write completely fresh material that isn’t bound by the constraints of a previously written story line. It’s been refreshing.
If you’re also doing nanowrimo this year, feel free to add me as a writing buddy, my member name is B_Daring. I hope everyone has a nice November!
