Gaming Woes

I LOVE playing games, video games especially. I currently have a PS3, a Wii, a Gamecube, a pair of GB Advances, even a Super Nintendo that I’m pretty sure still works. Hopefully next year, I’ll be able to buy a Xbox 360.

I like player vs player combat games(woot for the Soul Calibur series!) and the occasional shoot em ups, but my favorites are always the RPG games. Tales of Symphonia is one of my all time favorites! Another game that I liked, but admittedly have never played was Mass Effect 2. I liked the storyline so much that when my husband played it, it distracted me from my writing.

One of my biggest complaints about games, of any variety, is how they are often designed for one player alone. What makes me even more annoyed is when a game has multiple characters, but doesn’t allow for multiplayer gaming, much less cooperative multiplayer gameplay.

That is where I think Tales of Symphonia got it especially right. Allowing up to four players, cooperative, but not required. Even after a game save has been created with more than one player, it can be switched back and forth to have any number(4 or less) of players, at anytime in the game. Why can’t more games be designed that way?

What is even more absurd, is when a game, such as Mass Effect 3, which my hubby plays a lot of lately, allows for online multiplayer gaming, but does not allow for two players to use the same machine, regardless of whether it is played online or not! For two people in the same household to play together, two machines and two copies of the game would be required. What is up with that?!

At least Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception got it partly right, allowing for cooperative multiplayer in the shooting section of the game, but it would have been nice if it would have allowed for offline multiplayer. Same thing with Mass Effect 3, why couldn’t they at least allow offline cooperative multiplayer? Maybe I just want to spend a stress relieving day of shooting aliens with my hubby and not have to listen to people from who-knows-where sneezing into their mics or talking about getting high.

There are so many old games I would love to see a remake of. One of the games I think would make awesome cooperative multiplayer game is Legend of Dragoon! (For those of you that played the original, I know that they have re-released it on PSN, but from the videos I’ve seen, it appears to be the exact same game, dated graphics and all.) Can you imagine a remake of it, or even a sequel, with the better graphics of a PS3 (or Xbox 360 or Wii) with optional cooperative multiplayer?

My favorite video games are(in no particular order): Legend of Dragoon, Tomb Raider (1 & 2), Jade Cocoon, Legend of Legaia, Tales of Symphonia, Bloody Roar 3, Shadow Hearts, the Jak and Daxter series, the Rachet and Clank series, the Spyro the Dragon series (Not Skylander. I don't know who that purple, winged bulldog is, but he's not Spyro), MediEvil, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations, Soul Calibur 2, The Legend of Zelda (Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and Twilight Princess), Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2, and Pokemon(GBA playable versions up until FireRed/LeafGreen)

What about you? What are your favorite games? Any games you wish would be remade or allowed multiplayer mode?
