Progress and ideas.

I’ve been good. Well, almost. I’ve been trying to stay off my computer and away from work completely on my weekends. However, this weekend I got a new story idea that I just had to write down. It went pretty smoothly, only a couple hours and I already have a rough outline for the whole thing.

It wasn’t my usual type of story. For one thing, it is completely real-world like. Not a ‘true story’ or based on anyone I know, but it definitely could be. There are no paranormal or fantasy elements at all. Not even really mystery. It is more a coming-of-age story than anything, if I had to classify it. I tend to like writing those. Every once in awhile I have to come up with something that is true to life, so I don’t lose my grip on reality :P I’m thinking that if I do publish it, which I’m not sure I’ll ever get to actually writing it (I’ve got over twenty story ideas already that aren’t of the series I’m currently working on), I might do so under my real name instead of my pen name. Haven’t decided.

I wish that I had a story I could put up on the net in time for Halloween. It’s not that I don’t have ideas, I actually do, but those stories would most likely take longer to write than just two and a half weeks. I have a hard time limiting myself to the smaller word count of writing short stories. I’m sure I could, but it would take some practice. I had a fun concept in mind.
It's from the view point of a vampire, and no it isn't a romance. It doesn't have an actual story worked out for it yet, so I'm not making any promises that anyone will see it. Either way, I wouldn't want to rush anything, just to get something out there by then. Probably wouldn't be very good if I did. Maybe I'll have a story to put up by next Halloween.

I’m currently working on a scene that is thoroughly kicking my butt. Dialogue nightmares... it’s not easy doing scenes that have five different characters involved and arguing. Part of me wishes I could cut it, but it’s necessary for the story and it can not stay the way it was in the first version... sigh. I wonder if I’m having trouble because I’m overthinking it. Or maybe it needs even more conflict than what is currently there? I'm sure I’ll get through it though and it should be a scene I’m happy with in the end.

  1. I know what you mean about five character dialogues. I had to have them every-so often in my story. :-) Good luck!

    1. Thanks. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one!
